Serrano's Mexican Grill is an Anchorage restaurant serving authentic Mexican food built on family recipes passed down through generations. Its story began in November 2008 in a tiny place in the heart of Anchorage. The kitchen hand crafts corn tortillas, makes salsas in house, marinates carne asada for more than 24 hours, and prepares its own chorizo, with everything made from scratch daily. The restaurant has been voted Best Tacos in Alaska by the Anchorage Daily News for six consecutive years.
Serrano's has three Anchorage locations: Downtown off 4th Avenue, Northern Lights Boulevard, and Tudor Road, and the site also covers the Terra Room, catering, events, gift cards, and wholesale. We designed and built the restaurant's WordPress site, and our work with them continued after launch with content strategy and search engine optimization.
The challenge
Serrano's cooks from family recipes handed down through generations, and the owners asked for a site that carried those values and their rustic look. Photography had to do most of the work of showing that care.
The basics had to stay easy to find: locations, hours, and contact information. The owners also wanted the site to read for regulars and for people who had never been in.
What we did
We designed and built a custom WordPress site for Serrano's, a full replacement for the one they had. WordPress keeps it easy to update and leaves room for the site to grow.
The design follows the direction the owners asked for. The site leads with the restaurant, the menu, and where to find each location, and it includes:
- Customized responsive web design
- Customized Google searchable menu
- Prominent calls to action
We continued working with Serrano's after launch on content strategy and search engine optimization aimed at steady growth of the site.
