Jitters is a family oriented coffee shop in Eagle River, a small town in Alaska just outside Anchorage. What the shop sells is a blend of atmosphere and good coffee, poured under its own branding and sold alongside branded merchandise.
We designed and built the Jitters website on WordPress, a full redesign of the one they had.
The challenge
Jitters management did not want a touch up. They decided the site had to start over, because a light refresh would not have carried across what the shop actually is to a customer who had never walked in: where it sits in Eagle River, how it feels inside, and the branding that runs across the coffee and the merchandise.
There was a second requirement. The site had to be useful to the community around the shop, not just a page describing the business. Between those two, the scope settled on a full redesign, worked out in face to face meetings with management.
What we did
We rebuilt the site from scratch on WordPress. The design keeps what worked on the old site and puts the shop itself forward, so a first time visitor gets the place, the feel and the branded coffee and merchandise before they get a menu. Community facing content sits alongside the shop content rather than behind it.
Every decision went through face to face contact with Jitters management.
